The inspiration behind Phoenix Mansion lies in the traditional living patterns of Chinese architecture. The designers aimed to create a spatial form that conforms to these patterns, designing different courtyards scattered throughout the project. This careful arrangement of space results in a well-organized master plan where each courtyard serves as a public space for communication. The occupants' journey home begins at these courtyards, leading them through a quiet, winding route to their private courtyards.
Located in Qingyang District, the project spans a land area of 43,000 square meters with a floor area ratio of 2.0. The highlight of the project is the three classic Chinese-style architectures built in the southeast corner, creating a distinctive urban house with courtyards unique to Chengdu. This project marks the completion of Greentown China's three contemporary project series and demonstrates their commitment to creating works of strategic importance.
The Phoenix Mansion is constructed using a variety of materials including aluminum panels, glass, wood, tiles, and stones. The project area spans 138,000 square meters, housing a mix of traditional Chinese courtyard dwellings and modern multi-level buildings. The designers faced the challenge of spatial organization and facade design, adopting both modern and traditional Chinese-style facade languages to interpret Oriental elegance. Despite the contrasting facades of the two types of dwellings, unity was achieved in terms of spatial patterns and spirit.
The courtyards are the center of daily life in the Phoenix Mansion. The plane design of the project unfolds around these courtyards, which are enclosed with buildings, walls, corridors, and pavilions. This design creates a tranquil, safe, and clean inner space for the occupants. The living spaces are surrounded by specific functional divisions including an entry courtyard, a main courtyard, a small landscaped yard, a vegetable garden, etc., ensuring that occupants can enjoy the scenery when windows are opened.
The project began in January 2018 and was completed in December 2020. The design process involved extensive research into traditional Chinese architecture and modern design techniques. The result is a residential complex that not only stands out for its unique design but also for its strategic importance. The Phoenix Mansion was awarded Silver in A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021, a testament to its outstanding design and innovation.
